Hills Pet Food Developed For Companion Animal Health

In 1939, when veterinarian Mark Morris Sr. examined a guide dog and diagnosed kidney failure, he offered the animal’s owner some of his special dog food, formulated to help animals with renal failure. Following the animal’s recovery, he worked with Burton Hill of Hill Packing Company to package his Raritan Formula B dog food in 1948, packaged under the name Raritan Ration C. This began a venture to become known as Hills Pet Food and additional formulas were developed to help companion animals with obesity and gastrointestinal disorders.
